Ever wondered? Where your Video making idea go wrong?
I am quote aware that most of the start-ups and those looking to create videos are the ones that are aware that videos are preferred mode of consumption for your target audience. You are also sure videos would also help you stand apart from your competitors but are struck at the starting point unable to convert your thoughts to a Video. Let’s discuss were exactly are you going wrong in the first place.
Love betrays
Most entrepreneurs are in love with their company and when you want to create a Video you want to show off all your affection into words. I have seen product owners sending me 7 pages of script (i.e. 5000 words) for a 90 seconds Video. You need to understand you can’t say it all in single Video.
A 90 seconds Video can have up of 300 words limit? Make sure you concentrate only on major impact points.
Your team will betray you
I want you to understand that Video making is an art. Like all the other art form, it’s better until only few or individual minds are involved in creating the video. 99% of the cases, the decision for video is taken by Senior Management and they involve too many people into the creation. You see videos of Apple, Adobe, and like of them, and want to recreate the similar videos. I really understand the creative ebb and flow in you head. But creating video needs a far different set of skills unlike creating a Brochure or the Website. So, leave the task to its experts.
Even video creators will betray you
This is another usual blunder your team does. They get cost/second from 10 vendors and even will send out a post in LinkedIn and other social media platforms. This will result in huge response from number of talented Video Creators, with amazing portfolios. Trust me, there are tonnes of talented video creators who can work magic for you. But how are you going to find the right vendor? Go through all the hundreds responds you received or check out each’s portfolio? This is going to be a work in itself. Simon’s job is judge talent in ‘America’s got Talent’, it certainly isn’t yours too.

Let me demystify something for you. You watch movies, right? The budget is not estimated based on the duration of the movie. The budget is based on the script and how much money the script needs to come alive in screen. The cast you want to put in and technician you want to work with.
The best option is to perhaps, ask your friends who have done videos is the right thing to do. Bigger the vendor, bigger the money you got to pay.
Some pointers to make a quick video
1. KISS – Keep it Short & Simple. If a 2 Years old isn’t going to understand your Video, you gone wrong somewhere.
2. Restrict the video to your top 3 features – There can be 10 key features, but we aren’t making a Sholay – Keep saying – 60 seconds. 60 seconds is like “Aaaal iz well” – It helps control creativity
3. Ask your team to chill and focus on their core activities – The reason why the video creation is taking a lot of time is because they have no clue how it’s done. Just like we don’t know how you created your product. We have our own inabilities and let’s accept that
4. Don’t post the requirement on Social Media because we, video creator, will clog your posts. I know you love to have interactions in your LinkedIn post but that’s not going to help you.
Ask your friends over a phone, they might put you on to the right vendor. OR let me make it easy for you – CALL ME!!
Hope this helps you get some clarity on video creation.
